The Republic of Kenya is situated on the coast of East Africa and is bisected by the Equator. She has common borders with Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania. The country is divided into eight provinces, namely Coast, Central, Rift Valley, Nyanza, Western, North Eastern, Eastern and Nairobi - which has province status - making up a total of 582,000 sq. km (224,230 sq. miles).

The capital and the commercial center is Nairobi. Other major centers are Mombasa - a centuries old trading port, Nakuru - an important agricultural center, and Kisumu - a port on the shores of Lake Victoria.....more
